Description
This is a photograph of the Tramonte Family monument to their mother. It is found in the old historic cemetery in Galveston Texas. It features the figure of a veiled woman who appears to be comforting a man who is grieving. I see it as a symbol of a mother comforting her son.The cemetery in Galveston is 176 years old and has seven different burial grounds: The Old Cemetery which contains approximately 1500 graves, Potters Field which contains the sites of indigents and has only a few graves, Oleander Center has approximately 1000 grave sites, New Cahill Cemetery which is in place of the old Evergreen Cemetery that was ruined in the Great Storm of 1900. It contains approximately 900 sites, the Episcopal Cemetery containing over 1000 sites, the Old Catholic Cemetery containing 900 graves, Old Cahill Yellow Fever Cemetery, and the Hebrew Society Cemetery which contains approximately 500 graves. This cemetery contains the burial sites of many famous Texans from the Galveston area and is said to be haunted. The "Great Storm of 1900" which ruined the Evergreen Cemetery, devastated Galveston and resulted in somewhere between. 6,000 to 10,000 deaths. The hurricane had waves up to 15 feet high and submerged the majority of the city of Galveston.

Soft and gentle, hushed and silent — there is a quiet sense of peace and tranquility to this piece.
