Artist's Description
This is a photograph of a gorgeous, pink, cactus bud just waiting to burst open into a beautiful flower in the middle of all the prickly spines of a desert cactus. The image was captured at Big Bend National Park in south Texas during the springtime when the desert is full of color. Isn't it interesting that something so beautiful continues to bloom in the midst of something that can inflict such pain? This print would be lovely on the wall of your home or office, or over the fireplace in your ranch home or cabin. It would be equally at home on the page of a calendar or in a magazine publication.

Apologies for causing a bit of confusion with my comments, Linda. I'm so used to botanic-speak when dealing with plant images that I used a bit of shorthand for the species name-- Cylindropuntia imbricate.

Native plant photography is one of the things that keeps me busy and I have to say this image could easily be part of a guide to desert plants! An absolutely beautiful image. If you'd like to add a keyword to your list, this lovely little rascal is a cholla. Sometimes called "devil's walking stick" or "cane cactus", it belongs to the genus Cylindropuntia and is most likely a C. imbricata.
