This photo was taken one hot, Texas afternoon near Graham, Texas. He was lying in the shade of a large tree, escaping the rays of the hot Texas sun. There were a number of other Longhorn cattle in the same field, but there was no doubt who was the boss. He watched warily (as did I) as I approached the fence with my camera. I assured him quietly that I meant no harm. He just lay there and posed for me. Upon further inspection of the herd around him, I noticed a baby calf lying between him and another Longhorn which was obviously the mother of the calf. I'm sure that had I made any sudden moves in the direction of that calf the boss man would have reacted. Needless to say, I moved slowly.
